Tested By Fire
Mark Hanson lost his home to the fires of 2003. Mark saw the poor
response of the government and the insurance companies which should have
been there to help in that hour of need and instead in many cases
blocked families’ efforts to rebuild. Rather than siding with the
insurance companies, Mark wrote grants, made phone calls and fought the
bureaucracy to help people reconstruct their lives and businesses.
Through the Heartland Foundation, a community service group Mark found,
he solicited donations and got 60 cars as well as furniture, computers,
and other items much needed by fire victims.
Mark has devoted his life to public service as a teacher (twice being
named Teacher of the Year) as a job developer (where he has created
thousands of new jobs and careers). He has created opportunities for new
businesses to flourish creating more jobs.
He is now teaming up with the Apollo Alliance to develop technologies
and achieve energy independence, creating an estimated 80,000
new jobs for our region in the process.
He wants to continue to serve the people of his community by going to
Sacramento to fight for the people, to fight for fire preparedness and
on the side of firefighters, but more than that to fight for better
jobs, to strengthen communities, for more energy and for clean energy,
to reform our prisons, and restore California to the position it once
held as a national leader in education. As a teacher
and the head of the Grossmont Race-Human Relations Task Force,
Mark fought to make our schools safe for all students.
As a concerned citizen, Mark has worked with the State Youth
Council and State Veterans Work Group.
Mark is a lifelong resident of the district he now wants to
represent.
